Dr. Derek Ko is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, West Campus in San Jose. Before his career as a chiropractor, he graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Exercise & Health from the University of Hong Kong. Following graduation, Dr. Ko decided to pursue a career in Chiropractic to help impact lives in a natural way (via spinal health, nutrition and the use of practical ways to improve and maintain health).
While in school, Dr. Ko was an active member in Sports Council, Extremities Club, Soft Tissue Club (Vice President) and Gonstead/Diversified Club. He also studied under the tutelage of Dr. Dan McClure, Sports Chiropractor Extraordinaire, who spent significant time working with Olympic athletes at the US Olympic Training Center. In fact, Dr. Derek began organizing seminars in San Jose to bring Dr. McClure to the Bay Area and was later invited to assist with teaching these workshops alongside his mentor, friend and idol.
Prior to ChiroBalance Spine & Sport, Dr. Ko was an avid volunteer at high-profile sporting events while attending Palmer College of Chiropractic- West. The events included Sea Otter Classic, Escape From Alcatraz, The North Face® Endurance Challenge, The Silicon Valley Turkey Trot and The Susan G Komen 3-day.
More recently, Dr. Ko mobilized a unit of 15 local Chiropractic Doctors to aid in the relief of displaced families, firefighters and volunteers during the California valley fires in 2015. Furthermore, Dr. Ko served as the Team Chiropractic Physician for semi-pro football teams: Central Coast Barnstormers – undefeated champions (2015) and South Bay Patriots (2016
Dr. Derek Ko lives and practices in South Bay. In his spare time, he enjoys educating, Crossfit, volleyball, cooking and family time.
